Keown comes home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?attachment_id=80022\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-80022\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Robert-R.-Keown.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"298\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-80022\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>On Friday afternoon, forever young Second Lieutenant Robert Keown came home to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. His earthly remains were recovered from a mountainside in Papua New Guinea where his P-38 aircraft crashed after a mission in 1944.<\/p>\n<p>His nieces and nephews were on hand for his welcome home according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/latest-wwii-pilot-missing-since-1944-crash-buried-201245268.html\">Associated Press<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Relatives never knew what happened to him until November. That&#8217;s when genetic testing confirmed that remains found years ago on the island were his.<\/p>\n<p>Keown was buried Friday with full honors.<\/p>\n<p>Nieces and nephews are the closest remaining relatives to attend the funeral of Keown, who grew up near Atlanta in Lawrenceville, Georgia, before moving to Scottsboro, Alabama.<\/p>\n<p>His father died in 1937 and his mother in 1979.
