{"id":79083,"date":"2018-04-26T08:44:18","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T12:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=79083"},"modified":"2022-01-23T22:45:47","modified_gmt":"2022-01-24T03:45:47","slug":"more-on-assemblyman-randy-voepel-the-upside-down-combat-action-ribbon-wearing-clown-from-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=79083","title":{"rendered":"More on Assemblyman Randy Voepel, the upside down COMBAT ACTION RIBBON-wearing Clown from California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofsandiego.com\/politics\/2018\/04\/25\/video-of-assemblyman-voepel-i-served-in-vietnam-with-south-korean-troops\/\">Times of San Diego<\/a> publishes a video in which Randy Voepel claims to have served in Vietnam combat with Korean Tiger Battalions.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9ThiHrwkokg\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eastcountymagazine.org\/assembly-tapes-reveal-voepel-claiming-%E2%80%9Cheavy-combat%E2%80%9D-expereince-tiger-battalion\">East County Magazine<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the latest round of claims that Assemblyman Randy Voepel has inflated his military record, audiotapes and transcripts from two California legislative hearings last year reveal Voepel speaking of being in \u201cheavy combat\u201d in Vietnam and serving with the \u201cTiger Battalion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Military records indicate Voepel served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Buchanan do not indicate that he was involved in any ground or river combat.<\/p>\n<p>Our search found no unit called Tiger Battalion. Voepel may have been referring to Tiger Force, an Army infantry unit, or possibly the Tiger Division of the South Korean Army, which did serve in Vietnam.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>By:  MCPO (SW) Terence B. Hoey, USN (Ret.)<br \/>\nApril 25, 2018<\/p>\n<p>By way of the figurative \u201cdeath by 1000 cuts\u201d, here are some nuggets for the public to consume with respect to Voepel.<\/p>\n<p>Although the U.S. Navy failed to list all Voepel\u2019s commands on a purported official biography recently obtained by San Diego area media outlets, we know exactly where Voepel was, what he did and what he was awarded.<\/p>\n<p>He was stationed aboard two ships during his harrowing combat days in Vietnam:  USS GURKE (DD-783) and USS BUCHANAN (DDG-14).  He was a sea-going radarman during his \u201ctime in the jungles of Vietnam.\u201d  So, you, the reader, can square that peg!<\/p>\n<p>But, according to Voepel, as he testified in the California Assembly, that, \u201cI served in Vietnam with the (South Korean) Tiger Battalion and when they went into an operational area, the Viet Cong took a vacation. Seriously, all combat in that area would cease.\u201d Go to 3:08 to hear <a href=\"https:\/\/ww.digitaldemocracy.org\/hearing\/54327?startTime=35&#038;vid=18ee125c737599a591ffb93e2ae3a64a\">the comedy about his in country action<\/a> with Korea\u2019s Tiger Battalion:  <\/p>\n<p>During the same time he was in combat with the Tiger Battalion (presumably) \u2026 he was aboard the USS GURKE (DD-783) and he had quite the time, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/ussgurke.org\/logs\/logbok19.html\">the little quip he left on the USS GURKE (DD-783) website<\/a> (top of page).  I don\u2019t really know what it means, but it is interesting:  <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Voepel describes his time at sea, on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlrsinc.com\/gurke\/newsletters\/Pepco0210.pdf\">the front page of a newsletter<\/a> \u2026 he sounds like a fully qualified unabled bodied seaman to me:  <\/p>\n<p>It is very interesting that Voepel does not discuss his time onboard the USS BUCHANAN (DDG-14) like he does so vividly speak about his combat time \u201cin the jungles of Vietnam\u201d.  Strange \u2026 is it not?<\/p>\n<p>Voepel\u2019s altered DD-214N is making its rounds now in the circle of those who deal in such matters serious matters \u2026 18 USC 498.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhoever forges, counterfeits, or falsely alters any certificate of discharge from the military or naval service of the United States, or uses, unlawfully possesses or exhibits any such certificate, knowing the same to be forged, counterfeited, or falsely altered, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We have tee\u2019d up two questions for Voepel\u2019s camp to answer, yet we believe the crickets have taken over this discussion.  Those questions are:  1.) Did you know Voepel\u2019s DD-214N was altered before you provided it to the press with the caveat of confidentiality?  2.)
