The Virginian-Pilot reports that Petty Officer 3rd Class Allante Martanaze Arrington was sentenced to 15 months in prison for making anonymous phone bomb threats on US Navy facilities;<\/p>\n
According to court documents, Arrington, who was most recently assigned to the dock landing ship Oak Hill, called in a series of threats Aug. 2 and Aug. 17 to Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach and Naval Station Norfolk. Among other things, the boatswain\u2019s mate claimed there were bombs on the Oak Hill, the Gunston Hall and the Whidbey Island.<\/p>\n
The Aug. 2 threats resulted in lockdowns and evacuations that affected ships and pier operations.<\/p>\n
The Navy later said none of the bomb threats was credible.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
I guess the phone companies cooperated to nail the little pogue;<\/p>\n
Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents were able to link Arrington to the calls with the help of Verizon Wireless, which handles Little Creek\u2019s phones, and T-Mobile, Arrington’s carrier.<\/p>\n
Verizon provided investigators15 possible phone numbers, all of which were associated with T-Mobile.<\/p>\n
In turn, T-Mobile provided information about the exact calls, and that the caller used a special code to mask his identity.<\/p>\n
The Navy later identified Arrington as the cellphone\u2019s owner. In an interview Aug. 17, Arrington acknowledged to NCIS he owned it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
