Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisCuomo\/status\/964119368668983296?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 15, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The rule that Obama&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2016\/12\/19\/2016-30407\/implementation-of-the-nics-improvement-amendments-act-of-2007\">Social Security Administration wrote<\/a> didn&#8217;t take affect until December 19, 2017. Not only did the NRA oppose the rule, so did the ACLU on 4th Amendment concerns. <\/p>\n<p>The rule required that a targeted individual defend himself in court under duress from the government in order to keep a constitutionally-protected right. If he didn&#8217;t, he&#8217;d automatically lose his right to own a gun. <\/p>\n<p>And, oh, by the way, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2017\/03\/16\/house-passes-contentious-bills-on-veterans-gun-rights-va-accountability\/\">Congress did the same thing<\/a> for the Department of Veterans Affairs;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The second measure \u2014 which passed 240-175 \u2014 would prohibit VA officials from submitting records of veterans with severe mental illnesses to the federal criminal background check system, thereby preventing them from purchasing firearms.
