<\/a><\/center><\/p>\nFormer Senator Chuck Hagel, who also served as the Defense Secretary during the Obama Administration, and as a squad leader in the Vietnam War came out of hiding today to criticize the current Presidential administration on the subject of leadership. He told the Lincoln, Nebraska Journal-Star<\/a>;<\/p>\n “Globally, you see the same political dysfunction in virtually every democracy in the world,” Hagel said, with England abandoning the European Union, German Chancellor Angela Merkel struggling to form a coalition government and Emmanuel Macron bringing a new face to the government of France.<\/p>\n “Nationalism, populism everywhere,” Hagel said.<\/p>\n As for Trump himself, Hagel emailed a blunt assessment one day following the interview after the president asked congressional leaders why the United States should be open and welcoming to immigrants from “shithole countries” like Haiti and in Africa.<\/p>\n “Donald Trump is doing great damage to our country internationally,” Hagel said. “He’s an embarrassment.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Yeah, it’s a cryin’ ass shame that people are trying to regain control of their governments after being told for decades that government knows better than we do in our own lives. We’re “dysfunctional”.<\/p>\n Yes, Hagel used to be one of us. He was wounded twice in Vietnam and he earned a Bronze Star for his service there. <\/p>\n But, then, as a Senator, he joined up with VoteVets, the MoveOn-supported Veterans’ organization that stood against President Bush as the centerpiece of their existence. I guess IVAW wouldn’t have him.<\/p>\n Also, as a Senator, he called the Iraq Surge a failure<\/a> before it even began, standing shoulder to shoulder with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.<\/p>\n
