When the train came to a stop, Amtrak staff searched it and found Wilson sitting in the engineer\u2019s seat of the \u201cfollow engine,\u201d playing with the controls.<\/p>\n
He was behaving erratically, goaded staff with profanities and wrestled with them, sometimes reaching for his waistband.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m the conductor, (expletive),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Amtrak workers held Wilson on the ground outside the train until a deputy from Furnas County arrived. The deputy handcuffed Wilson and while patting him down found a fully loaded .38 caliber handgun in Wilson\u2019s front waistband along with a fully loaded \u201cspeedloader\u201d in his front-left pocket. A speedloader enables rapid reloading of bullets.<\/p>\n
Passengers on the train also pointed investigators to a backpack belonging to Wilson. The backpack contained three more loaded speedloaders, a box of .38 ammunition, a hammer, a fixed-blade knife, tin snips, scissors, a tape measure and a face mask similar to those used in construction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
A search of his home turned up some loaded rifle magazines, white supremacist literature and some ammunition in a hidden compartment of his refrigerator. His father surrendered 15 of his weapons to authorities, including a short-barreled rifle and a rifle converted to fully automatic. <\/p>\n
Apparently, he attended the rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in August and a road rage incident was tracked back to him by his license plate number.<\/p>\n
His lawyer requested a competency hearing soon after his arrest, but he was found to be competent, which I suppose is relative or subjective or something.<\/p>\n
