{"id":76781,"date":"2017-12-27T10:36:26","date_gmt":"2017-12-27T15:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=76781"},"modified":"2017-12-27T10:36:26","modified_gmt":"2017-12-27T15:36:26","slug":"north-korean-defector-was-immune-to-anthrax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=76781","title":{"rendered":"North Korean defector was immune to anthrax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2017\/12\/26\/north-korea-soldier-who-defected-had-immunity-to-anthrax\/?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&#038;utm_source=NYPFacebook&#038;utm_medium=SocialFlow&#038;sr_share=facebook\">New York Post<\/a> reports that one of the four soldiers who defected from North Korea recently was immunized against anthrax, prompting military officials to speculate that the deadly bacteria has been weaponized by the hermit kingdom&#8217;s military;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A South Korean intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity did not say which of the four soldiers who fled the hermit kingdom this year had the antibodies in his system.<\/p>\n<p>The discovery is causing concern in Seoul because the disease can kill at least 80 percent of those who are exposed to the bacterium in 24 hours \u2014 unless antibiotics are taken or vaccination is available.<\/p>\n<p>But South Korea\u2019s military has yet to procure an anthrax vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>Defense Ministry spokeswoman Choi Hyun-soo has said an anthrax \u201cvaccine is expected to be developed by the end of 2019,\u201d but not sooner, UPI reported.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/12\/27\/asia\/north-korea-anthrax-intl\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun said the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention bought 1,000 doses of anthrax vaccines, to be given to biochemical counterterrorism agents or civilians in the case of anthrax exposure. The vaccines arrived in November.<\/p>\n<p>Park said the Blue House had bought 350 doses of anthrax vaccine to counter accidental exposure, but he said it was ordered by the previous government led by former President Park Geun-hye after an incident in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Then, it emerged the US military erroneously shipped live anthrax used for research purposes to South Korea, as well as parts of the US, Canada and Australia.
