But this trip is indeed a longish one.<\/p>\n<p>US 70 \u2013 in the past called the \u201cBroadway of America\u201d \u2013 is still around, albeit no longer coast-to-coast (it now ends where it meets US 60 in Globe, Arizona). Still: parts of US 70 are indeed a drop-dead gorgeous drive.<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Road2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" \/><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>US 70 is particularly scenic through New Mexico. The photo above was taken between Clovis and Roswell \u2013 and that\u2019s probably the <i>least<\/i> scenic part of the road in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the rest of the highway west of Roswell is incredibly beautiful. Since I don\u2019t want anyone to accuse me of \u201cstolen religion\u201d (smile), I won\u2019t claim this trip is a religious pilgrimage \u2013 even though the road does pass the entrance to The Inn of the Mountain Gods. <i>(Sidebar: I\u2019ve stopped there to see the place, but I&#8217;ve not yet stayed. It\u2019s a gorgeous inn, at around 7000\u2019 elevation in Ponderosa pine country. Staying there for a weekend or longer one day is on my \u201ctry to do this if you can\u201d list.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>One of the most beautiful stretches on US 70 in New Mexico is the Tularosa basin. The following just seemed apropos while crossing it after an early start. And traversing the Tularosa basin during a red-tinged sunrise while listening to this was . . . nice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b_R-KDThZeY?rel=0\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Y\u2019all take care. I\u2019ll check in while traveling as circumstances and time permit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PS: Skippy, don&#8217;t say anything.
