{"id":75494,"date":"2017-10-21T10:13:59","date_gmt":"2017-10-21T14:13:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=75494"},"modified":"2017-10-21T10:13:59","modified_gmt":"2017-10-21T14:13:59","slug":"air-force-may-recall-pilots-to-fill-gap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=75494","title":{"rendered":"Air Force may recall pilots to fill gap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Air Force is short about 1500 pilots, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2017\/10\/20\/air-force-recall-many-1-000-retired-pilots-address-serious-shortage\/785344001\/\">USA Today<\/a>, and the President has signed an Executive Order to authorize the recall of as many as a thousand;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In June, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., labeled the pilot shortage a crisis that would prevent the Air Force from fulfilling its mission. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a full-blown crisis, and if left unresolved, it will call into question the Air Force\u2019s ability to accomplish its mission,\u201d said McCain, chairman of the Armed Services Committee. <\/p>\n<p>Richard Aboulafia, an aviation analyst and vice president of the Teal Group, said the shortage stemmed from a number of issues. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One is competition from commercial airlines,&#8221; Aboulafia said. &#8220;Another is delays and funding shortfalls in training. And, due to military operations, utilization of the aircraft and crew has been higher than expected.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Under the last president, the Air Force was forced to reduce it&#8217;s ranks and the flying hours of pilots and aircraft to save money. Pilots who wanted to fly, left the Air Force for commercial employment.
