According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution<\/a>, valor thief Shane Ladner<\/a> will get no jail time for lying on his application for employment with the Cherokee County, Georgia Sheriff’s Department, for providing forged government documents for his Purple Heart license plates and for providing forged government documents as evidence in the court case against him.<\/p>\n

A former Holly Springs police officer who lied about being a Purple Heart recipient to get free license plates was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years on probation while avoiding jail time.<\/p>\n

Shane Ladner must also perform 600 hours of community service and pay $6,000 in restitution to Cherokee County, District Attorney Shannon Wallace told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email. Ladner was sentenced as a first offender. <\/p>\n

A jury convicted Ladner on May 28 of five counts of making false statements and one count of theft by taking after he claimed he earned the medal, awarded for combat wounds, when he was injured in Panama in 1989 during the operation to capture President Manuel Noriega, The AJC previously reported. He was found not guilty on one theft charge. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ladner also tried to sue Atlanta’s Fox 5<\/a> because they exposed his lies. They won the case last year, with a little help from TAH and our expert staff, but obviously, the judge didn’t think that trying to pull the wool over the court’s eyes is anything to be upset about. <\/p>\n

Ladner and his lawyer made up stories about his secret Purple Heart and claimed the orders and citation were stored at Fort Benning, Georgia and in a Panamanian cancer hospital, but not at the NPRC in Missouri.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
