{"id":74726,"date":"2017-09-15T11:46:18","date_gmt":"2017-09-15T15:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=74726"},"modified":"2017-09-15T11:46:18","modified_gmt":"2017-09-15T15:46:18","slug":"german-prosecutor-investigates-illegal-arms-shipments-through-ramstein-afb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=74726","title":{"rendered":"German prosecutor investigates illegal arms shipments through Ramstein AFB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/german-prosecutor-reviewing-claim-of-illegal-arms-shipment-to-syria-through-ramstein-air-base-1.487869#.WbvzHdFryUk\">Stars &#038; Stripes<\/a> reports that the German prosecutor\u2019s office in Kaiserslautern, Germany is investigating charges that US contractors shipped Soviet-style weapons from Eastern Europe to Syria through Ramstein Air Force Base. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Ramstein \u2014 a key U.S. military logistical hub overseas from which cargo is ferried throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa \u2014 was linked to Washington\u2019s effort beginning in 2013 to arm Syrian rebels fighting the Islamic State, according to a report Tuesday in the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung.<\/p>\n<p>The weapons transfer through Ramstein would have required permission from the German government, the report stated.<\/p>\n<p>Officials with Germany\u2019s Economic Affairs Ministry told Stars and Stripes that the ministry did not give the U.S. military permission to transport weapons to Syria through the country. They denied having any knowledge of such activities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Officials at Ramstein deflected inquires from the media to the Pentagon.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The report was based on months of research by journalists with the newspaper, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network.
