From LaPlace, Louisiana<\/a>;<\/p>\n

The unidentified homeowner heard voices in his backyard, and went to investigate.<\/p>\n

When the homeowner opened the backdoor, 27-year-old Kalvin Ferrygood entered the home, according to the SJSO.<\/p>\n

The homeowner shot Ferrygood.<\/p>\n

Responding officers and firefighters administered aid to Ferrygood, and he was transported to a hospital in New Orleans, where he later died of his injuries.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

From Winston-Salem, North Carolina<\/a>;<\/p>\n

Following an investigation, officers determined that 79-year-old James Thomas Noah and 77-year-old Barbara Ella Melton were in their apartment when there was a knock on the door.<\/p>\n

When Melton opened the door, Reed and an unidentified man forced their way into the residence and began assaulting Noah with a blunt object.<\/p>\n

Eventually, Noah was able to draw his handgun from his waistband and shoot Reed in the head, the release says.<\/p>\n

The unidentified man fled the apartment in an unknown direction.<\/p>\n

Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O\u2019Neil determined that no criminal charges will be sought against Noah.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

26-year-old Lourenco Marcus Reed is being treated for the life-threatening gunshot to his empty head.<\/p>\n

From Phoenix, Arizona<\/a>;<\/p>\n

Phoenix police report that on Saturday, a man later identified as 44-year-old Virgil Edward Hughes, forced his way into a home near 35th and Dunlap avenues. Police say he broke the door jam and rushed into the home. <\/p>\n

The homeowner reported that he saw a handgun on the Hughes\u2019 hip, grabbed his gun and fired one shot, missing Hughes but hitting the wall.<\/p>\n

Hughes continued running into the home crashing into the door before turning around and running out the front door.<\/p>\n

Police located Hughes in the area and say he was in possession of methamphetamine.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

From Clinton County, New Jersey<\/a>;<\/p>\n

Cody J. Englert, 30, forced entry into a home at about 1:50 a.m. Wednesday at 925 4th St. in Pine Creek Township, Clinton County. He was shot by a resident of the home and died at the scene. Police said in a release that the resident who shot Englert is cooperating with investigators.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A notorious armed robber and escaped prisoner was allegedly “executed” by community members at Nodwengu, in Ndewedwe, north of Durban, on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The man, who was among eight prisoners who escaped from the Verulam police cells recently, was a known armed robber who plundered the local community.<\/p>\n

Of the eight who escaped, four were recaptured.<\/p>\n

Superintendent Vasie Naidu said the man’s body had been found in dense bush.<\/p>\n

“A sack had been tied over his head. A single shot from point blank range went right through his head.”<\/p>\n
