{"id":74234,"date":"2017-08-26T08:30:54","date_gmt":"2017-08-26T12:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=74234"},"modified":"2017-08-26T08:33:48","modified_gmt":"2017-08-26T12:33:48","slug":"trump-pardons-arpaio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=74234","title":{"rendered":"Trump pardons Arpaio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/local\/phoenix\/2017\/08\/25\/donald-trump-pardons-sheriff-joe-arpaio\/599835001\/\">AZCentral<\/a>,  President Trump has pardoned former Sheriff Joe Arpaio from the charges that he had racially-profiled criminals in Arizona;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The White House announced the pardon Friday evening in a news release that recounted Arpaio&#8217;s lengthy career of &#8220;admirable service&#8221; in federal and local law enforcement and called him &#8220;a worthy candidate for a Presidential pardon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Reached moments after the announcement, Arpaio said he had not spoken to<br \/>\nTrump, but &#8220;I&#8217;m very appreciative of the president issuing that pardon. It shows how he backs up law enforcement.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Arpaio told The Arizona Republic he learned of the president&#8217;s action from his lawyer, who visited him Friday at about 4 p.m. at Arpaio&#8217;s Fountain Hills home.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I am pleased to inform you that I have just granted a full Pardon to 85 year old American patriot Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/901263061511794688\">August 26, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>From the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/08\/25\/us\/politics\/joe-arpaio-trump-pardon-sheriff-arizona.html?mcubz=3\">New York Times<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The criminal conviction grew out of a lawsuit filed a decade ago charging that the sheriff\u2019s office regularly violated the rights of Latinos, stopping people based on racial profiling, detaining them based solely on the suspicion that they were in the country illegally and turning them over to the immigration authorities.<\/p>\n<p>A federal district judge hearing the case ordered Mr. Arpaio in 2011 to stop detaining people based solely on suspicion of their immigration status, when there was no evidence that a state law had been broken. But the sheriff insisted that his tactics were legal and that he would continue employing them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure this won&#8217;t endear the President to his political opponents because it was the last administration that hounded Arpaio.
