<\/a><\/center><\/p>\nAccording to USAToday<\/a>, a Canadian sniper has shattered the record for the longest shot with a rifle;<\/p>\n \u201cThe shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces,\u201d a military source \u2014 who requested anonymity because the unit\u2019s operations are classified \u2014 told the paper. \u201cInstead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn\u2019t have a clue what was happening.\u201d<\/p>\n The 3,450-meter shot, which took about 10 seconds to reach its target, was independently verified by a video camera and other data, the source said.<\/p>\n The prior record was held by a British sniper, Craig Harrison, who in 2009 shot a Taliban gunner from 2,475 meters, or about a mile and a half, away during an operation in Afghanistan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n According to the Globe and Mail<\/a>, the shooter was using a 26-pound, 57-inch long McMillan TAC-50 (C15 is the Canadian military nomenclature), which Wikipedia<\/a> claims is a .50 caliber rifle with a maximum effective range of 1800 meters and 805 meters\/second muzzle velocity. <\/p>\n The rifle is made in Arizona.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
