{"id":72803,"date":"2017-06-16T09:00:12","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T13:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=72803"},"modified":"2017-06-16T06:44:52","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T10:44:52","slug":"shulkin-va-wont-cut-disability-payments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=72803","title":{"rendered":"Shulkin: VA won&#8217;t cut disability payments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Late last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=72293\">we talked about<\/a> a VA plan to cut disability benefits to some veterans. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2017\/06\/14\/va-shelves-plan-cut-benefit-elderly-disabled-vets.html#.WUK7CR55CfU.facebook\">Military.com<\/a> reports that the VA has changed their minds, thanks to the VSOs;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;To withdraw this benefit from people who rely on that money would be very difficult to do,&#8221; VA Secretary Dr. David Shulkin said at a Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Shulkin said that the proposal to cut IU came from an effort to make more efficient use of department funding, but it soon &#8220;became clear that this would be hurting some veterans, and I&#8217;m really concerned about that. I&#8217;m not going to pursue policies that hurt veterans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The proposal to cut the benefit, which VA officials said averages about $1,600 a month, to about 330,000 veterans provoked furious opposition from those receiving it and from veterans service organizations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A number of you folks have wondered aloud about why you should join the American Legion and the VFW and this illustrates the answer perfectly. Once again, the VSOs have represented you in the halls of government to protect that which you earned. Maybe it won&#8217;t affect you now, but down the road you might need help &#8211; I&#8217;m a good example of that.
