The Nobel Prize committee awarded <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20071012\/ap_on_re_eu\/nobel_peace;_ylt=AihuG_hjR4od5eZj_rXkSlas0NUE\" target=\"_blank\">Al Gore the prize<\/a> for his <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ManBearPig\" target=\"_blank\">manbearpig<\/a> documentary;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.&#8217;s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change and lay the foundations for counteracting it.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nGore&#8217;s film &#8220;An Inconvenient Truth,&#8221; a documentary on global warming, won an Academy Award this year and he had been widely expected to win the prize.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change,&#8221; the citation said. &#8220;He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The fact that British courts even decided last week that <a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/nationworld\/2003944163_gorefilm12.html?syndication=rss\" target=\"_blank\">the documentary is full of inaccuracies<\/a>, it\u00c2\u00a0didn&#8217;t deter the committee from making the politically-correct decision;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A British judge has ruled the Oscar-winning film on global warming, &#8220;An Inconvenient Truth,&#8221; contains &#8220;nine errors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>High Court Judge Michael Burton, deciding a lawsuit that questioned the film&#8217;s suitability for showing in British classrooms, said it builds a &#8220;powerful&#8221; case that global warming is caused by humans and that urgent means are needed to counter it.<\/p>\n<p>But he also said former Vice President Al Gore, the documentary&#8217;s moderator, makes nine statements in the film that are not supported by current mainstream scientific consensus.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And the &#8220;inaccuracies&#8221;? Curt from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floppingaces.net\/2007\/10\/08\/british-court-decides-an-incon\/\" target=\"_blank\">Flopping Aces<\/a> enumerates;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>The film claims that melting snows on Mount Kilimanjaro evidence global warming.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>The Government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s expert was forced to concede that this is not correct.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film suggests that evidence from ice cores proves that rising CO2 causes temperature increases over 650,000 years.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>The Court found that the film was misleading: over that period the rises in CO2 lagged behind the temperature rises by 800-2000 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film uses emotive images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests that this has been caused by global warming.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>The Government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s expert had to accept that it was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153not possible\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to attribute one-off events to global warming.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims that this was caused by global warming.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>The Government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s expert had to accept that this was not the case.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film claims that a study showed that polar bears had drowned due to disappearing arctic ice.\u00c2\u00a0 It turned out that Mr Gore had misread the study: <strong>in fact four polar bears drowned and this was because of a particularly violent storm.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film threatens that global warming could stop the Gulf Stream throwing Europe into an ice age:<strong> the Claimant\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s evidence was that this was a scientific impossibility.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film blames global warming for species losses including coral reef bleaching.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>The Government could not find any evidence to support this claim.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film suggests that the Greenland ice covering could melt causing sea levels to rise dangerously.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>The evidence is that Greenland will not melt for millennia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film suggests that the Antarctic ice covering is melting, <strong>the evidence was that it is in fact increasing.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film suggests that sea levels could rise by 7m causing the displacement of millions of people. <strong>In fact the evidence is that sea levels are expected to rise by about 40cm over the next hundred years and that there is no such threat of massive migration.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The film claims that rising sea levels has caused the evacuation of certain Pacific islands to New Zealand.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>The Government are unable to substantiate this and the Court observed that this appears to be a false claim.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Nobel Prize panel is merely following a precedent they set sometime ago, though. They gave the Peace Prize to the blood-drenched terrorist\u00c2\u00a0Yassir Arafat, and Mohamed ElBaradei\u00c2\u00a0of the International Atomic Energy Agency for making the world a more dangerous place by ignoring Iran&#8217;s march towards nuclear weapons, they might as well give a science prize to someone who makes a science film that has no science in it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/story\/0,2933,301168,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Gutfield<\/a> has a similar take;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Winning the Nobel Peace prize is like getting Miss Congeniality \u00e2\u20ac\u201d it&#8217;s saying: Nice job, now leave the building, you homely pig.
