Well, that\u2019s the way one media firm (Fox News) phrased it in the intro to an online video \u00a0\u2013 IMO somewhat misleadingly.\u00a0 But while \u201con strike\u201d may overstate the issue, it does roughly describe what\u2019s going on.\u00a0 Sort of.<\/p>\n
What is going on is that apparently approximately 100 Navy Instructor Pilots in their flight training program have refused to fly training missions recently.\u00a0 Their justification for doing so is ongoing \u2013 and apparently worsening \u2013 problems with the T-45 Goshawk trainer aircraft\u2019s oxygen system.<\/p>\n
The problems cause incidents of hypoxia during flight without warning.\u00a0 The issue has caused the loss of at least one aircraft recently \u2013 last August, near NAS Kingsville in Texas \u2013 and has also caused multiple other recent incidents.\u00a0 Two flight instructors characterized the frequency of such incidents as happening approximately 3 times weekly.<\/p>\n
