Police were called to the Oakley Pointe subdivision on report of a burglary in progress around 8:15 p.m.<\/p>\n

Officers found 30-year-old Elijah White Jr., of North Charleston, lying on the sidewalk near 203 Post Oak Court. He was pronounced dead at the scene. <\/p>\n

Moncks Corner Police Chief Rick Ollic earlier said White is believed to be the suspect involved in the reported burglary. He said investigators determined that the homeowner opened fire during the shooting.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A group of four people were leaving the Denny’s and getting inside their car when the man, armed with a gun, robbed them, Goetz said. As the gunman tried to get away, a male victim ran him down with his car and the gunman accidentally shot himself, Goetz said. <\/p>\n

Officers discovered the gunman with injuries so severe that it wasn’t clear at first if he was shot, stabbed or sustained another type of injury.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
