When police arrived, they found the woman hiding in a closet, McGrath said. She had been shot in the arm and was taken to University Medical Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people inside the residence are pretty shaken up,\u201d McGrath said.<\/p>\n

The homeowner shot both intruders, but police were not sure who shot the woman. The homeowner did tell police both men who entered the home were armed.<\/p>\n

There were no signs of forced entry to the home, McGrath said, adding the door might\u2019ve been open or unlocked.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the shooting, a man in his 20s arrived at Centennial Hills Hospital \u2014 less than two miles from the shooting site \u2014 with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. From Centennial Hills, the man was taken to UMC.<\/p>\n

McGrath said the man told police he was not shot at the Hesperides house, but police think he was involved with the home invasion.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

From Forest City, Arkansas<\/a>, Lisa Douglas’ business had been burglarized three times this year, and she was fed up with it;<\/p>\n

Angered by the act, Douglas, a 45-year-old single mother, said she decided to spend the night at her business last Wednesday to watch over it herself.<\/p>\n

Just as she expected, she said she woke to the sound of someone at the window, and dashed to the kitchen to dial 911.<\/p>\n

“I was scared to death,” she admitted.<\/p>\n

Douglas said she was then face-to-face to the alleged burglar, 31-year-old James Ray Davis, as she kept the dispatcher on the phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe got right there and I told him to stop and put his hands up,\u201d Douglas said. \u201cI let him know I did not want to shoot him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis was arrested minutes later when the Forrest City Police Department arrived. Davis was charged with commercial burglary and is currently being held at St. Francis County Jail.<\/p>\n

Douglas said her carry permit allowed her to feel safe that night.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In San Antonio, Texas<\/a>;<\/p>\n

Investigators say a little before 11 p.m. Monday on the 300 block of Madero, the driver of an SUV gave a man a ride. Police were told that during the ride, the new passenger showed a gun and tried to rob the driver. At some point there was a struggle for the gun, and the new passenger was shot in the elbow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

From Deerfield Beach, Florida<\/a>;<\/p>\n

[James] Murray, 74, heard a neighbor\u2019s window panes break at the Penthouse North condos about midnight Saturday, according to a police report. His friend, Jackie Jessee, was not home at the time.<\/p>\n

Murray found a burglar trying to get into the ground floor unit. The man \u2014 50 years younger and 6 inches taller \u2014 charged him, and Murray fired one shot and missed, the Broward County Sheriff\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n

Nearby, Deputies Moises Carotti and Lee Geiger were looking for a suspicious person along East Hillsboro Boulevard, also in Deerfield Beach. They heard a gunshot that came from about a block away.<\/p>\n

When they arrived, they found Murray pointing a handgun at Garrett Ford Plump, 24, a report said.<\/p>\n

Plump, of Pompano Beach, was arrested on suspicion of committing burglary with assault or battery, and unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. He is being held in a Broward County jail on a $5,000 bond.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
