{"id":70587,"date":"2017-02-27T15:07:11","date_gmt":"2017-02-27T20:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=70587"},"modified":"2017-02-27T15:34:10","modified_gmt":"2017-02-27T20:34:10","slug":"leland-lee-anti-gun-gun-trafficker-sentenced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=70587","title":{"rendered":"Leland Lee, anti-gun, gun trafficker sentenced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/morning-mix\/wp\/2016\/02\/25\/ex-calif-state-sen-leeland-yee-gun-control-champion-heading-to-prison-for-weapons-trafficking\/?postshare=1411488159101641&#038;tid=ss_fb&#038;utm_term=.67207933556b\">Washington Post<\/a> report that California State Senator, Leland Lee was sentenced in Federal court last week for trafficking in firearms and for accepting bribes.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?attachment_id=40854\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-40854\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Leland-Yee-242x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"242\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-40854\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Leland-Yee-242x300.jpg 242w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Leland-Yee-268x333.jpg 268w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Leland-Yee.jpg 484w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI hope that in your sentencing of me, you will look at my entire life and not just these crimes I have committed,\u201d the senator implored U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported. \u201cIn the 67 years of my life, I have devoted much of it to the work of the community, to people here in San Francisco and in the state of California.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yee added that he was most ashamed to have hurt his family and supporters: \u201cThat will always weight on me, and that will always haunt me for the rest of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Breyer was unsympathetic to the calls for leniency. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah, five years doesn&#8217;t seem too harsh for a man, a graduate of UC Berkeley, who, just months before his indictment had claimed to CBS News that \u201cIt is extremely important that individuals in the state of California do not own assault weapons. I mean that is just so crystal clear \u2014 there is no debate, no discussion\u201d while he was plotting to bring those kinds of weapons into the hands of criminals in California from outside of the country.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As a legislator, Yee supported strict gun control laws and was named to the Brady Campaign\u2019s Gun Violence Prevention Honor Roll.<\/p>\n<p>The calamitous epilogue to Yee\u2019s career, then, seems to be an abrupt about-face. During his campaigns, Yee had styled himself as an outsider removed from the corruption that plagued San Francisco governments past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy parents didn\u2019t encourage me to go into politics at all,\u201d he told Hyphen magazine in 2011. \u201cThere was a stereotype in the Chinese community that sees politics with suspicion.
