{"id":69566,"date":"2016-12-27T08:47:53","date_gmt":"2016-12-27T13:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=69566"},"modified":"2016-12-27T12:45:44","modified_gmt":"2016-12-27T17:45:44","slug":"opal-charles-skims-from-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=69566","title":{"rendered":"Opal Charles; skims from charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/article\/Feds-say-volunteer-at-San-Antonio-charity-skimmed-10781549.php\">MySanAntonio<\/a> reports that 66-year-old Opal Charles skimmed thousands of dollars from charities that donated to the Warrior Transition Brigade at San Antonio Military Medical Center since 2004 for which she worked;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>According to a complaint filed by Army investigators, she used the money to pay personal living expenses, accessing much of it from an ATM at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Barber, director of the San Antonio chapter of the Air Warrior Courage Foundation, said he personally delivered checks to wounded soldiers for years, but began approving emailed requests for financial assistance a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said at least some of those emails came from Charles\u2019 work email account. Charles has worked for the Warrior Transition Brigade at San Antonio Military Medical Center since 2004, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The Army probe found 127 foundation checks totaling more than $100,300 were deposited into Charles\u2019 bank account from April through October of this year.
