At the time, the media made it sound as if it was local nationals who were killed. It turns out they were Americans, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/articles\/blast-kills-4-wounds-14-on-afghanistans-bagram-airfield?utm_source=Sailthru&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=Mil%20EBB%2011.14.16&#038;utm_term=Editorial%20-%20Military%20-%20Early%20Bird%20Brief\">The Army Times<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Two U.S. service members and two American contractors were killed by a suicide bomber early Saturday on Afghanistan&#8217;s Bagram Airfield, the U.S. military said.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen American troops and one Polish soldier were wounded in the blast.<\/p>\n<p>The attack was carried out by &#8220;an apparent suicide bomber,&#8221; Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Saturday in a written response to the incident. It occurred around 5:30 a.m. local time. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/suicide-attack-kills-least-4-americans-bagram-airfield-afghanistan-n682866\">NBC News<\/a> the group was gathering for a post-Veterans&#8217; Day &#8220;fun run&#8221; when they were attacked. According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-37969820\">BBC<\/a>, the perp was a local employee and former Taliban fighter, Qari Enayatullah, who had switched sides for the &#8220;peace process&#8221; offered by the Afghan government in 2008.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/articles\/dod-identifies-soldiers-killed-in-suicide-bombing-on-bagram-airfield\">The Army Times<\/a> identifies the two soldiers killed;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sgt. John Perry, 30, and Pfc.
