Earlier this month, David Michael Ansberry, a member of the STP Family street hippies group attempted to bomb a police station in Nederland, Colorado. Ansberry’s distinguishing feature is that he’s 3 feet 6 inches tall. He was arrested after the attempt when he arrived in Chicago by air. From the Boulder Daily Camera<\/a>;<\/p>\n

The group gained national notoriety after one of its members, who went by the name “Deputy Dawg,” was killed by Nederland’s town marshal in 1971.<\/p>\n

This past weekend, FBI agents arrested David Michael Ansberry, 64, of San Rafael, Calif., in Chicago in connection with the failed bombing on Oct. 11.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Former Nederland town marshal Renner Forbes has admitted to what many say they’ve known for 26 years – that he shot and left for dead a volatile 19-year-old hippy in his custody.<\/p>\n

Forbes, 68, is in poor health and has been living in a Northglenn nursing home. He recently admitted to investigators for the first time that in July 1971 he shot Guy Goughnor twice, including once in the head.<\/p>\n

However, it was well known that Forbes, a former Air Force pilot who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, had a distaste for “hippies.”<\/p>\n

According to police reports, on July 17, 1971, Goughnor was drunk and causing a disturbance at the Pioneer Inn, a Nederland bar.<\/p>\n

“Forbes took Goughnor from the bar, and that was the last Goughnor was seen alive, ” Epp said at a news conference Friday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Forbes was eventually convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to probation – he died a few years later of an illness.<\/p>\n

So, Ansberry set a backpack bomb outside the police station, a robot detonated it in the parking lot and no one was injured. But those hippies sure hold a grudge, don’t they?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
