<\/a><\/center><\/p>\nOur friends at Havok Journal<\/a> write a very long article about Justin and Shawn Gourley<\/a> who run Military with PTSD<\/a> that annoying organization that sends out those signs about being courteous with your fireworks so you don’t scare the veterans.<\/p>\n The thing we dislike most about the signs is that they are transparent attempts at self-aggrandizement. \u201cIf you don\u2019t constantly remind everyone around you that you\u2019re a veteran, were you ever really a veteran at all?\u201d Additionally, the signs reinforce negative stereotypes about veterans, they further alienate veterans from the American populace, and they promote a victim mentality in veterans. These signs are the veteran community\u2019s equivalent of social justice \u201csafe spaces,\u201d you know, the ones that we veterans are usually so quick to rail against.<\/p>\n The worst part about these signs is, they work.<\/p>\n When I say \u201cthey work,\u201d I mean it in the sense of why people really put out the signs. The signs work to remind everyone who drives by that there is a veteran in the home, they reinforce a \u201cvictimhood\u201d mindset, and they\u2019re useful in bringing sympathy to the sign\u2019s owner. They\u2019re useless for just about anything else.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The article goes into detail that I attempted in my own research of the Gourleys, but Havok Journal actually read their book, when I only skimmed the parts that I could get for free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
