At the same token, Chief Weathersby was also the first African American Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rantoulpress.com\/news\/living\/2016-03-29\/weathersby-was-support-staff-tuskegee-airmen.html\">Another link <\/a>goes further into his personal history;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Because of his aptitude, the Air Force later relented, and Weathersby was able to enter a career field \u2014 supply \u2014 and would go on to serve for 30 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1983.<\/p>\n<p>It was at Lockbourne AFB in Columbus, Ohio, \u2014 the only all-African American Air Force base in the nation \u2014 where Weathersby was a cook for the Tuskegee Airmen \u2014 the 99th Pursuit Squadron and the 477th Bomb Squadron.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey stood out because they were selected people in the 99th and we were in support organizations,\u201d Weathersby said. \u201cWe were very proud of them \u2014 them and the 92nd Division and 93rd Division and the 467th Tank Division out of Fort Polk, La.<\/p>\n<p>Weathersby said he had a desire to be a pilot and took the test to see if he would qualify and got high marks after about four years in the service, but his parents didn\u2019t want him to become a pilot. because it was too dangerous.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While the Tuskegee Airmen history did end at Lockbourne Field in Columbus, Ohio, they were deactivated in July 1947.
