{"id":67985,"date":"2016-09-18T06:45:09","date_gmt":"2016-09-18T10:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=67985"},"modified":"2016-09-18T09:32:02","modified_gmt":"2016-09-18T13:32:02","slug":"the-senior-military-service-sends-its-regards-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=67985","title":{"rendered":"The Senior Military Service Sends Its Regards . . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>. . . to a bunch of youngsters that ran away from home years ago.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/3\/38\/USAF_seal.png\/600px-USAF_seal.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" \/><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today is the 69th birthday of the United States Air Force.\u00a0 The USAF was created by the passage of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Security_Act_of_1947\">National Security Act of 1947<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 While the act itself was signed by the POTUS on 26 July 1947, many of its provisions did not come into effect until 18 September of that year.<\/p>\n<p>What is today the USAF had previously been a part of the US Army \u2013 in fact, several different parts.\u00a0 Here they are, in chronological order, courtesy of Wikipedia:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u2022<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aeronautical_Division,_U.S._Signal_Corps\"><em>Aeronautical Division, Signal Corps<\/em><\/a> &#8211; 1 August 1907 to 18 July 1914<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u2022<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aviation_Section,_U.S._Signal_Corps\"><em>Aviation Section, Signal Corps<\/em><\/a> &#8211; 18 July 1914 to 20 May 1918<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u2022<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Division_of_Military_Aeronautics\"><em>Division of Military Aeronautics<\/em><\/a> &#8211; 20 May 1918 to 24 May 1918)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u2022<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._Army_Air_Service\"><em>U.S. Army Air Service<\/em><\/a> &#8211; 24 May 1918 to 2 July 1926)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u2022<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._Army_Air_Corps\"><em>U.S. Army Air Corps<\/em><\/a> &#8211; 2 July 1926 to 20 June 1941) and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u2022<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._Army_Air_Forces\"><em>U.S. Army Air Forces<\/em><\/a> &#8211; 20 June 1941 to 18 September 1947<\/p>\n<p>Yes, you read that correctly:\u00a0 what is today the USAF was once part of the US Army&#8217;s Signal Corps.\u00a0 Go figure.<\/p>\n<p>The USAF was made an independent military service by one of the provisions of the National Security Act of 1947.\u00a0 It became an independent service on 18 September 1947.\u00a0\u00a0 As a result, the USAF celebrates 18 September as its official birthday.<\/p>\n<p>So, since it\u2019s official:\u00a0 Happy Birthday, Zoomies.<\/p>\n<p>But we still need to talk about your service\u2019s policy of giving priority to building on-base golf courses, clubs, and quarters \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">then<\/span> asking Congress for more money so you can buy planes and finish building runways.
