Cargile<\/strong>, U.S. Navy, assigned to the crew of the <em>USS Oklahoma<\/em>, was lost on 7 December 1941 at Pearl Harbor.\u00a0 He was accounted for on 12 August 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u2022 Fireman 1st Class Jim H. Johnston<\/strong>, U.S. Navy, assigned to the crew of the <em>USS Oklahoma<\/em>, was lost on 7 December 1941 at Pearl Harbor.\u00a0 He was accounted for on 12 August 2016.<\/p>\n<p><u>From Korea<\/u><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u2022 PVT Virgil B. Adkins<\/strong>, B Company, 1st Battalion, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, US Army, was lost on 17 July 1953 in North Korea.\u00a0 He was accounted for on 10 August 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome back, elder brothers-in-arms.\u00a0 Our apologies that your return took so long.<\/p>\n<p>Rest in peace.\u00a0 You\u2019re home now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>. . .<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over 73,000 US personnel remain unaccounted for from World War II; over 7,800 US personnel remain unaccounted for from the Korean War; and over 1,600 remain unaccounted for in Southeast Asia (SEA).\u00a0 Comparison of DNA from recovered remains against DNA from some (but not all) blood relatives can assist in making a positive ID for unidentified remains that have already been recovered, or which may be recovered in the future.<\/p>\n<p>On their web site&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpaa.mil\/Contact\/ContactUs.aspx\"><em>Contact Us<\/em><\/a>&#8221; page, DPAA now has FAQs.\u00a0 The answer to one of those FAQs describes who can and cannot submit DNA samples useful in identifying recovered remains.\u00a0 The chart giving the answer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpaa.mil\/portals\/85\/Images\/DNA.jpg\"><em>can be viewed here<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 The text associated with the chart is short and can be viewed in DPAA&#8217;s FAQs.<\/p>\n<p>If your family lost someone in one of these conflicts and you qualify to submit a DNA sample, please arrange to submit one.\u00a0 By doing that you just might help identify the remains of a US service member who\u2019s been repatriated but not yet been identified \u2013 as well as a relative of yours, however distant.\u00a0 Or you may help to identify remains to be recovered in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Everybody deserves a proper burial.\u00a0 That\u2019s especially true for those who gave their all while serving this nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DPAA has identified and accounted for the following formerly-missing US military personnel.
