Really slim pickin’s this morning. AverageNCO sends us a link to a story in Joplin, Missouri<\/a>. Scott Hasty went into town the other day, like always, he strapped on his handgun on his belt. He encountered Derek A. Patton who claimed that he was a federal agent and he demanded to see Mr Hasty’s permit to carry a gun. Mr. Hasty replied that he didn’t need a permit, and he asked Mr Patton for his badge – Patton refused which piqued Mr Hasty’s suspicions. Someone called the police and they found that Mr Hasty was in compliance with Missouri’s open carry laws. Mr Patton, however, was arrested for impersonating a police officer (he wasn’t bright enough to stop claiming to be a federal agent when the police arrived) and false imprisonment.<\/p>\n

In Josephine County, Oregon<\/a> back in April, Linzin Rooni Eshalom was part of a crew that tried to rob a home. One of the adults who lived there heard dogs barking and went outside to check. He was pistol whipped and shot (he has since recovered from his injuries). A teen in the home grabbed a .357 Magnum pistol and shot Eshalom three times. While he was in the hospital recovering, Eshalom checked himself out and fled to Arizona where he was picked up and sent back to Oregon for trial where he was sentenced on Thursday to 45 months in jail as part of a plea deal with prosecutors to charges of first-degree attempted assault, first-degree burglary and unlawful use of a weapon. A charge of attempted murder was dismissed. Three of his accomplices are still on the loose.<\/p>\n
