{"id":66172,"date":"2016-06-06T12:52:01","date_gmt":"2016-06-06T16:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=66172"},"modified":"2016-06-06T12:52:01","modified_gmt":"2016-06-06T16:52:01","slug":"navy-bans-drinking-by-sailors-and-marines-in-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=66172","title":{"rendered":"Navy bans drinking by Sailors and Marines in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-japan-navy-idUSKCN0YS0CL\">Reuters<\/a>, the commander of U.S. naval forces in Japan, Rear Admiral Matthew Carter, forbade the eighteen thousand sailors in Japan from consuming alcohol because one sailor is suspected of drunk driving which caused an accident in which two Japanese citizens were injured.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Renewed anger among residents in Okinawa at the U.S. military presence threatens a plan to relocate the U.S. Marines&#8217; Futenma air base to a less populous part of Okinawa, which was agreed in 1995 after the rape of a Japanese schoolgirl by U.S. military personnel sparked huge anti-base demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>Okinawa&#8217;s governor and many residents want the [M]arines off the island.<\/p>\n<p>All U.S. Navy sailors in Japan will be kept on base and banned from drinking until &#8220;all personnel understand the impact of responsible behavior on the U.S.-Japan alliance,&#8221; the press release said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The ban exempts dependents and civilian employees.
