Author’s Note<\/u>: the “one bullet enters the brain” line above is not<\/i> a reference to suicide. A single pistol shot to the back of the head of a restrained prisoner (some accounts indicate the prisoner was forced to kneel) was the method of execution used by the NKVD at the Ostashkov prisoner of war camp during the Katyn massacre<\/i><\/a> and, reputedly, elsewhere. The KGB also reputedly used the method.<\/p>\n
