He went to basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and then he went to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and became a light vehicle driver, then suddenly he was out on the street, clenching his only award &#8211; the National Defense Service Medal &#8211; in his grubby little forepaw.
