Well, we have some more news about that\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Plainly Pathetic Abominable Collection of Asininity<\/del>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, AKA \u201cObamaCare\u201d. \u00a0And as is usual, the news isn\u2019t all that good for the US taxpayer.<\/p>\n

First, here\u2019s an Item I apparently overlooked previously.\u00a0 Remember those \u201cnon-profit cooperatives\u201d that were supposed to provide much of ObamaCare\u2019s insurance coverage?\u00a0 Remember that as of last October, nearly half of them had folded<\/a><\/em>?<\/p>\n

Well, about a month ago more info was released about just how badly those cooperatives did, financially, in 2014 and 2015.\u00a0 (Short version:\u00a0 they lost their butts<\/a><\/em>.)<\/p>\n

By March, the number of failed cooperatives was up to 12.\u00a0 These cooperatives lost $376 million in 2014.\u00a0 In 2015, their losses are estimated at $1 billion.\u00a0 And they apparently still owe hospitals and doctors around $1 billion as well.<\/p>\n

The \u201crest of the story\u201d?\u00a0 Well, the Federal government apparently loaned cooperatives around $2.4 billion collectively at start-up.\u00a0 The 12 failed cooperatives apparently still haven\u2019t repaid $1.2 billion that the Federal government loaned them.<\/p>\n

Gee.\u00a0 That means one of two things will happen.\u00a0 Either we the taxpayer will eat the cost of those loans – \u00a0or their parent firms will raise future premiums to cover losses as well as repaying them.\u00a0 Which means that you and I will pay for them through increased premiums in the future.<\/p>\n

Wonderful.\u00a0 Just freaking wonderful.<\/p>\n

In fact, it appears that the higher premiums may take effect later this year.\u00a0 The new 2017 \u201cObamaCare\u201d premiums are expected on 1 November.\u00a0 Premiums announced in November (for next year) are expected to show rather marked increases<\/a><\/em> over last year\u2019s ObamaCare exchange premiums.<\/p>\n

How much?\u00a0 Well, I\u2019m not sure \u2013 but last year, premiums were up an average of \u201conly\u201d 8% or so, and the current\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 gang of fools in DC who foisted this idiocy on the American public<\/del> \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Administration touted that fact as \u201cgood news\u201d.\u00a0 I\u2019m not really sure why, though – in contrast, CPI inflation for 2015 was 0.1%<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 (Yes, that is a zero to the left of the decimal point.)<\/p>\n

Gee \u2013 losing money out the wazoo, billions in outstanding debts and loans, and substantial future price increases virtually guaranteed.\u00a0 What\u2019s not to like?\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n

Sheesh.\u00a0 We need to kill this idiotic mistake of a law posthaste.\u00a0 Then burn its corpse until its ash, mix the ashes with quicklime and water, and dump the resulting slurry down an abandoned mine shaft.\u00a0 Then dynamite the mine shaft so it collapses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
