{"id":65014,"date":"2016-03-28T10:00:36","date_gmt":"2016-03-28T14:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=65014"},"modified":"2016-03-28T10:15:56","modified_gmt":"2016-03-28T14:15:56","slug":"gun-dealer-may-have-prevented-mass-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=65014","title":{"rendered":"Gun dealer may have prevented mass shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John Downs, owner of Downs Bait and Guns, looked up and down James Howard, who had just passed a background check for the purchase of a rifle and decided to not complete the sale, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/ktla.com\/2016\/03\/27\/gun-store-owner-refuses-to-sell-weapon-to-man-suspected-of-planning-mass-shooting-at-ohio-university-2\/\">KTLA<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;From what I know of the circumstances, I believe [Downs] did prevent a mass shooting that was probably going to occur at (Ohio University) in Athens,\u201d said Hocking County Sheriff&#8217;s Office Sheriff Lanny North. \u201c[Howard] had an enormous amount of ammunition he was going to purchase, shotgun shells and 22-caliber rifle ammunition.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In fact, Downs was so sure that Howard was a risk, when Howard returned to the store after he was denied the gun purchase, Downs turned off the lights, locked the door and got his customers on the floor, while he loaded some guns to protect himself.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/nbc4i.com\/2016\/03\/22\/ohio-university-student-charged-with-assaulting-staff-member\/\">NBC4i<\/a>, earlier that day, the 25-year-old student had assaulted a staff member at the college. He was arrested at another store for burglary. He was buying ammunition for a shotgun he had just bought.<\/p>\n<p>Howard had been previously admitted to a mental health facility, but that didn&#8217;t raise a flag on his NICS background check. Only a gun dealer with a conscience prevented the arming of a nutcase.
