At the University of Oregon, recently a professor conducted a study related to \u201cclimate change\u201d.\u00a0 In and of itself, that’s nothing newsworthy.<\/p>\n
But this one is a bit different.\u00a0 As part of the project, the \u201cresearch professor\u201d in charge published a paper titled, \u201cGlaciers, gender, and science.\u201d\u00a0 It urged other scientists \u201cto take a \u2018feminist political ecology and feminist postcolonial approach\u2019 when researching glaciers and climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the paper\u2019s abstract; I\u2019ve added emphasis to highlight some of the spectacular idiocy. (The full version of the paper can be viewed here<\/a><\/em>; a PDF-format copy may be downloaded here<\/em><\/a>.)<\/p>\n Glaciers are key icons of climate change and global environmental change.\u00a0 However, the relationships among gender, science, and glaciers<\/em> \u2013 particularly related to epistemological questions about the production of glaciological knowledge \u2013 remain understudied.\u00a0 This paper thus proposes a feminist glaciology framework<\/em> with four key components: 1) knowledge producers; (2) gendered science and knowledge; (3) systems of scientific domination; and (4) alternative representations of glaciers<\/em>. Merging feminist postcolonial science studies and feminist political ecology, the feminist glaciology framework<\/em> generates robust analysis of gender, power, and epistemologies in dynamic social-ecological systems<\/em>, thereby leading to more just and equitable science<\/em> and<\/em> human-ice interactions.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Yep, you got it:\u00a0 SWJ Propaganda 101, masquerading as \u201cscience\u201d. \u00a0Or, alternatively: an example of someone who\u2019s figured out how to ride the \u201cgrant gravy train\u201d by producing intellectual garbage that panders to the prejudices of those providing the funding.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re waiting for the \u201cpunch line\u201d, here it is.\u00a0 A\u00a0 $412,930<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 National Science Foundation grant<\/span> apparently at least partially funded this trash.\u00a0 So if you pay Federal taxes . . . looks like your Federal taxes funded part of this lunacy.<\/p>\n And if you live in Oregon, your state taxes funded the rest of it.<\/p>\n Fox News has an article with more details<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 It\u2019s worth a read \u2013 unless you\u2019re having blood pressure issues.<\/p>\n Relativism has been defined as the belief that intellectually there is no distinction between sh!t and Shinola<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 Based on the above, it certainly appears that both the University of Oregon and the NSF have adopted that idiotic theory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
