Jonn\u2019s written previously here at TAH about that new military retirement plan<\/a><\/em> the current\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 gang of fools and tools running the show in DC<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Administration \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0conned Congress into passing<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0convinced Congress to approve.\u00a0 The bottom line:\u00a0 the former 20 year military retirement plan goes away, effective for people entering in 2018, in favor of a \u201cblended\u201d plan much like Federal civilian employees have today. (Ask most Federal civilians how much of a \u201cgood deal\u201d the current Federal retirement system is compared to its predecessor, CSRS – which was somewhat similar to the military\u2019s 20 year retirement. But you might want to be prepared to get an earful at high volume when you do so.)<\/p>\n

A major criticism of the “new plan” before it was approved was that it made early service too lucrative, and that this would lead more troops to bolt early\u00a0 – resulting in a loss of experience\/expertise. Well, guess what:\u00a0 the Pentagon apparently is now having second thoughts for precisely that reason.<\/p>\n

In this year\u2019s Defense Budget Request, DoD has proposed modifications to the changes implemented just last year.\u00a0 Bottom line is that the newest proposed changes are designed to keep people in the service by making later service more attractive than earlier.<\/p>\n

Gee.\u00a0\u00a0 Seems to me that\u2019s kinda exactly what the 20 year retirement did.\u00a0 Except IMO it did it much better than either this new \u201cblended system\u201d or the latest changes DoD proposes to same will.<\/p>\n

But heaven forbid DoD admit it goofed and backtrack, even when it makes perfect sense to do so.\u00a0 Just look at the F-35!<\/p>\n

The Army Times<\/span> IMO has an article giving an overview of the Pentagon’s latest proposed changes<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 It\u2019s a bit longish, and the overall situation is somewhat complex.\u00a0 But if you have interest it\u2019s certainly worth a read.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
