I’m not conflicted anymore. To review, Guidi had spent a year in Vietnam as a postal clerk in a headquarters unit, which was perfectly honorable. In recent years, though, he began embellishing his story, telling everyone that he had been a careerist, he had a battlefield commission, became a Captain, he had been captured by the enemy and held in a POW camp. He created for himself some medals and some wounds. He became a “green beret” and a Ranger. And, then, he started taking stuff from people based on his stories. He got a free $30,000 deck, a couple of specially-built bows (which cost thousands of dollars to build) designed to compensate for his imaginary war wounds. And as it turns out, according to the Randolph Reporter, he also had Purple Heart license plates on his vehicle;

More charges were levied against Guidi by the Wharton Police Department on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Officer Richard Ornelas filed charges on Guidi for allegedly filing applications with the Military Order of Purple Heart and the Wounded Warriors in Action containing false information in order to receive benefits. Wharton is responsible for Mine Hill Township policing.

He was also charged with tampering with public records relating to his application for special plates to the Military Order of Purple Heart who acts as an agent of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

A motor vehicle summons for making a false application was also issued. Guidi was served with the new criminal charges at the Morris County Correctional Facility, where he has been since January.

We told the Military Order of the Purple Heart about Guidi when we first busted him, and they’ve been leading the charge ever since. They tell me that in the 80s, a new member only needed to have someone to vouch for their Purple Heart in order to join. They have since changed that practice and they require documentation. But, it looks like Guidi had altered his paperwork, too. I hope the VA OIG is reading about Guidi. All credit for the arrest of Guidi and further investigation goes to the MOPH – I’ve seen their attitude about phonies in their ranks turn 180 degrees in the past year. I can’t praise them enough.

But, yeah, f*** Guidi. It looks like that’s exactly what New Jersey is going to do to him with their new stolen valor law.

When I wrote about Robert Guidi back in December, I wrote that I was conflicted about … More charges for valor thief Robert GuidiRead more

[30,391

post-64174","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-phony-soldiers","category-valorvultures
["GET
