Sweeney testified that Deleo had previously sold $145,000 worth of military equipment on Ebay to people living in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. When arrested, agents recovered communications a member of the group was having with a person in Russia.<\/p>\n

According to Navy records, Deleo left the Navy in January 2013 after five years. He was last stationed in Virginia Beach with Coastal Riverine Squadron Two.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Former military police officer Matthew Thomas Deleo was arrested near Yorktown, VA and charged with stealing authentic military uniforms and selling them to foreign countries. He used his status in the Navy Reserves to gain access to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown-Cheatham Annex and steal uniforms from its warehouses. He and three accomplices then sold the uniforms on Ebay to customers in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat poses a great threat,\u201d Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Alyssa Nichol said during Deleo\u2019s arraignment. \u201cThis is very, very dangerous. It is a threat to national security and it is not an overstatement to say so.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Apparently, their arrest was at the end of a drug-addled road trip;<\/p>\n

From the witness stand Thursday in U.S. District Court, Naval Criminal Investigative Service Special Agent J. Sweeney recounted a drug-fueled trip from Rhode Island to Yorktown and that along the way the party stopped to buy heroin and cocaine. He said the group \u2013 led by Deleo \u2013 drove down Friday in a large pickup hauling an enclosed trailer.
