<\/a><\/center><\/p>\nThere’s a new show on Amazon by the name of “The Man in the High Castle” taken from the book by the same name by author Philip K. Dick. It takes place in 1962 and it’s based on the premise that the United States never prepared for World War II and so, when the war finally broke out we stayed out of it and the Germans and Japanese successfully invaded and now they’ve occupied the United States proper for seventeen years. The Rocky Mountains are a “neutral zone” between the Germans (in the East) and the Japanese on the West Coast. Both sides are brutal occupiers and neither is depicted well (though the Japanese seem nicer than the Germans). Both sides are depicted as racists against Jews, one of the main characters is Jewish and a member of the resistance.<\/p>\n
Anyway, some of the ads for the show had some Nazi imagery and it was posted around New York City. Well, apparently, the legacy governor of New York didn’t like it so, it had to come down, according to Associated Press<\/a>;<\/p>\n The agency also initially defended the ads, saying they met its guidelines.<\/p>\n But many public officials condemned them. Mayor Bill de Blasio called them “irresponsible and offensive.”<\/p>\n Officials confirmed Wednesday that Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered them removed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n I binge-watched the ten episodes currently on Amazon. It’s really pretty good. But I didn’t come away hating Jews or blacks or anyone else. I thought it was an interesting and imaginative story. But it was fiction. The Nazis were bad, the Japanese were bad and they were still bad people in the movie. They celebrated VA Day (Victory in America Day) by greeting each other with “Sieg Heil” and throwing Nazi salutes. I still didn’t like Nazis, and it didn’t make me a racist. While I was watching the show for ten hours, I wished all of the characters who were Nazis would get killed – pretty much the same way I’ve always felt.<\/p>\n I was, however, offended by “The Motorcycle Diaries” about a carefree spirit, Che Guevara and his journey though his youth knowing that he was going to become a lying, murdering thief, but Hollywood romanticized him. Know what I did? I didn’t watch the movie. I ignored the movie posters and the ads that flashed on my computer screen and on my commute. Soderbergh’s “Che” absolutely insulted my intelligence, but I just paid the thing no attention. But I don’t remember anyone calling for ads to be removed from the public’s view.<\/p>\n A little real-life lesson; the American Communists and Socialists supported Nazi Germany and urged the US to stay out of the war; well, until Hitler touched off Operation Barbarossa against the Soviet Union. Then they campaigned hard for the US to help the Allies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
