For some reason, he thought that a made-up story about Vietnam service would sway the investigator;<\/p>\n Public records show that Schriber was on active duty in the Army from July 10, 1967, to June 21, 1969, in Germany, where he served as a clerk typist and company clerk. No other record of foreign service is listed.<\/p>\n However, Schriber told a detective investigating the sexual misconduct claim that he received Green Beret training and was shot during the Vietnam War, according to an Evansville Police Department report.<\/p>\n “I was not in Vietnam,” Schriber told the Courier & Press on Friday. He declined to speak further about it.<\/p>\n […]<\/p>\n [Detective Brian Turpin], an EPD sex crimes investigator, said that Schriber told him he had received years of intense therapy for, among other reasons, “things he had suppressed from Vietnam.”<\/p>\n He reported that Schriber told him that he was confused at the time of the incident:<\/p>\n “Schriber began to tell me that he had a lot of students over at his home at that time because times were different. I asked why he thought this happened and Schriber told me that he thought this had occurred due to a lot of confusion he had. I asked what the confusion was about, and he said he had gone into training to be a Green Beret and was shot during the Vietnam War. I asked where it was and he said a bullet grazed his leg. He said he didn’t know if he had killed people over there because so much had been blocked out.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n First of all, military service isn’t a get-out-of-jail-free card, especially for sex crimes committed against children. A bullet grazing your leg doesn’t make you break the law. “Green Beret” training has nothing to do with sexual misconduct.
