There’s this Afghan on the internet by the name Mustafa Kazemi<\/a> (his Twitter handle is @CombatJourno<\/strong>) who may or may not have been an interpreter at some point in his life. He became (relatively) famous in 2011 when he was the source for several Michael Yon articles. Our friends at Blackfive<\/a> looked into Mustafa’s background and came up empty. He claimed to be an infantryman, a mortarman, EOD and trained in Close Quarter Battle. Mustafa explained to them;<\/p>\n

I was given the title of PFC from my team leader. I don’t know if I really was a PFC or not. I was just a local interpreter hired there and some slight training was given to me. I didn’t finish the entire EOD course, I just listened to someone a couple days where he told me what to do when we confront an IED and safety measures. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Another friend of ours bumped into Mustafa on Twitter the other day and asked him about some of his claims on his Twitter account. He Tweeted back;<\/p>\n

Hey Chief, I served with afghans and worked with OGA too. This terminal isn’t secure I can’t give you much details over this line.<\/p>\n

I was an O3 but got drafted out with a promotion to O4.<\/p>\n

\"Mustafa<\/a><\/center><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here’s what his profile said;<\/p>\n

So, soon after the above message to our friend, I sent a Twitter message asking about the claims on the profile. Seems I was talking to some guy who claimed that he bought the Twitter account from Kazemi. This guy said he was a bank clerk somewhere and didn’t know anything about Kazemi. <\/p>\n

So I asked him who posted this picture on September 29th of Kazemi pretending to be a British paratrooper [Editor’s Note:<\/strong> a reader writes to tell us that he’s in the uniform of Special Operations Kandak (SOK)<\/a>];<\/p>\n

\"Mustafa<\/a><\/center><\/p>\n

Then he suddenly realized that Kazemi still had creds for the account. But, boy he was going to give him heck.<\/p>\n

Of course, I suspect that this bank clerk who was sending me the messages was actually Kazemi, himself. <\/p>\n

Anyway, I’m holding my breath waiting for that message explaining the problem with his profile. Oh, wait, here’s my message;<\/p>\n
