Fox News<\/a> reports the sad news that Lieutenant General Frank E. Petersen Jr., the first Black Marine Corps aviator has passed at the tender age of 83. Peterson began his career as a seaman and a electronics technician in 1950, then he entered the Naval Aviation Cadet program which he completed in 1952, in time to serve as a pilot in the Korean War and he went on to serve in the Vietnam War in 1968. In 1979, he was promoted to Brigadier General and he became the first Black general in the Marine Corps. Peterson retired from the Marine Corps in 1988.<\/p>\n
