C.D. sends us a link to WFAA<\/a> which exposed William Colvard, who has been shopping a false story about him being injured in an IED attack on his convoy in Iraq. He told Tina Nealy that his wife and he were cheated out of a formal wedding because of his injuries, so she threw one for him, like she has done in the past for other wounded veterans.<\/p>\n

Colvard was living on a legend that had begun at least two years ago, when he was honored in a “McAfee Military Moment” celebration at a Frisco Rough Riders game.<\/p>\n

“In March of 2008, his convoy was hit by a roadside bomb which caused the Humvee he was in to roll over,” a news release said. “He [Colvard] suffered burns, a separated shoulder and hearing loss.”<\/p>\n

The Rough Riders said the news release was based on an interview with Colvard, he approved it, and was there when it was read at the baseball game.<\/p>\n

Colvard now concedes to News 8 that he was lying.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Colvard was a Guardsman and he spent seven months in Iraq before he injured his shoulder “diving over a wall at Camp Taji”, apparently, not for reasons that would qualify him as a “wounded warrior”. Colvard spent the remainder of his time in the Guard going through rehab for his shoulder, but it’s unclear whether or not he receives any compensation for his injury.<\/p>\n
