We first wrote about John Spodofora in March 2012<\/a> and got his records a few days later<\/a>. Before that, he had claimed that he was a Navy diver and involved in combat in Vietnam. His records tell a different story, that he had never set foot in Vietnam. Most residents of Ocean County, New Jersey didn’t care that he was a liar and reelected him as their mayor, so our buddy, Earl Galloway, started a Facebook parody page, to which, Spodofora responded with police reports to his own police department as well as the Navy NCIS. The result of those reports probably isn’t what Spodofora expected – the media<\/a> is making him famous for his lies;<\/p>\n

When we confronted Mayor Spodofora about his military record, he said, “You don’t have to put your boots on the ground to be a Vietnam vet.”<\/p>\n

And when we asked if he was anywhere near Vietnam during the war, his response was, “I can’t say.”<\/p>\n

Spodofora has not always been so secretive about his military service. His 2011 election fliers and his township bio touted he was a Vietnam veteran and Vietnam War Medal of Valor recipient.<\/p>\n

Earl Galloway tells us, “I knew the truth that he wasn’t in Vietnam.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, Spodofora is still clinging to his secret squirrel defense. “I can’t say” my ass. Reelection is going to be a bear next time as more and more scrutiny is focused on the liar. It’s funny how these phonies just can’t tell the truth and put all of this behind him and get on with their lives without the lies.<\/p>\n
