For some reason, Donald Trump thought it was important to make fun of John McCain’s military service yesterday when he told a crowd in Iowa<\/a>;<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not a war hero,\u201d Trump said of McCain, a Vietnam War veteran who was held captive and tortured for more than five years at one of North Vietnam\u2019s most notorious prisons. \u201cHe\u2019s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren\u2019t captured.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, so Trump has tried to back peddle on those comments;<\/p>\n

\u201cIf a person is captured,\u201d Trump said, \u201cthey\u2019re a hero as far as I am concerned\u2026 But you have to do other things also.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He continued that he disagrees with how McCain has spent his later years as a legislator. Yeah, so do I as I’ve made clear in these pages over the past years. But what he went through in Vietnam has nothing to do with that. The year that McCain was captured and imprisoned with his injuries at the Hanoi Hilton, in 1967, Trump was on his fifth draft deferment while working on his economics and archeology degree at the Wharton Business School in Pennsylvania. So, where was Trump after his graduation from college in 1968? He was working for his Dad at the family business – and not being drafted into the war. How heroic.<\/p>\n

John McCain has been a real POS in regards to his political career, and I’ve written that here for years. Him and his little buddy, Lindsay Graham have sold veterans own the river on countless occasions. But, to use his POW years against him in a political discussion is just indicative of how Donald Trump has no place in politics.<\/p>\n

But Trump finds himself in good company. The most incompetent lawyer in the history of the profession, a fellow whose own military career has come into question countless times on this blog, Daniel A. Bernath, comments on a Mediaite<\/a> article on the subject;<\/p>\n

This is silly. Getting captured doesn’t make you a hero. Putting your ass on the front line doesn’t make you a hero.<\/p>\n

How about if McCain actually did something other than stay a prisoner and cave in to the communists during his imprisonment. How about if he risked his life and saved a fellow sailor. That would make him a hero.<\/p>\n
