So this is the “stolen valor” flavor of the week. I can’t even get mad at a dude who “steals” the valor of everyone who ever wore the National Defense Service Medal, otherwise known as the “fire guard ribbon” and only aspires to the rank of private first class<\/del> Lance Corporal (E-2<\/del> E-3). <\/p>\n

Fire guard is the one-hour nightly duty that we all rotated through in basic training to make sure our barracks didn’t burn down while we were all sleeping. We also all got the NDSM for being in the military during certain periods of service. Everyone got it for breathing while in uniform. <\/p>\n

Yeah, the guy probably didn’t show up at this graduation straight from his duty assignment, he may have been a Marine at one time for all we know – that hasn’t been proven at all. He just doesn’t wear the uniform the way it should be worn. And he’s a little goofy looking – I’m not sure that recruiters don’t induct goofy-looking people.<\/p>\n
