Some notable historical figures have things that they want to add to the discussion this weekend;<\/p>\n<p>George Patton on June 5th; <em>&#8220;We want to get the hell over there. The quicker we clean up this Goddamned mess, the quicker we can take a little jaunt against the purple pissing Japs and clean out their nest, too.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dwight Eisenhower said; <em>You will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.<\/p>\n<p>Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped, and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely&#8230;.The free men of the world are marching together to victory. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory. Good luck, and let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<p>From Stephen Ambrose&#8217; Band of Brothers;<em> Lieutenant Welsh remembered walking around among the sleeping men, and thinking to himself that &#8216;they had looked at and smelled death all around them all day but never even dreamed of applying the term to themselves. They hadn&#8217;t come here to fear. They hadn&#8217;t come to die. They had come to win.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 1984, Ronald Reagan said; <em>These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. These are the men who took the cliffs. These are the champions who helped free a continent. These are the heroes who helped end a war.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 1994, Bill Clinton said; <em>We are the children of your sacrifice. We are the sons and daughters you saved from tyranny&#8217;s reach. We grew up behind the shield of the strong alliances you forged in blood upon these beaches, on the shores of the Pacific, and in the skies above.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 2004, George W Bush said; <em>Generations to come will know what happened here, but these men heard the guns. Visitors will always pay respects at this cemetery, but these veterans come looking for a name and remembering faces and voices from a lifetime ago.
