From all reports, folks are buying up guns as fast as they can – it all started the day after the election from what I can tell. But Obama says you don’t need to stock up according to the Sun-Times<\/a>;<\/p>\n

As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month.<\/p>\n

“I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment,” Obama said at a news conference. “Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven’t indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ya know, I’m not a paranoid person, but if someone in government told me I “don’t need” to do something, it’d probably speed up my process of doing it. Remember this from FactCheck.org;<\/p>\n

Obama was being misleading when he denied that his handwriting had been on a document endorsing a state ban on the sale and possession of handguns in Illinois. Obama responded, “No, my writing wasn’t on that particular questionnaire. As I said, I have never favored an all-out ban on handguns.”<\/p>\n

Actually, Obama’s writing was on the 1996 document, which was filed when Obama was running for the Illinois state Senate. A Chicago nonprofit, Independent Voters of Illinois, had this question, and Obama took hard line:<\/p>\n

35. Do you support state legislation to:
\na. ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns? Yes.
\nb. ban assault weapons? Yes.
\nc. mandatory waiting periods and background checks? Yes.<\/p>\n

Obama’s campaign said, “Sen. Obama didn’t fill out these state Senate questionnaires–a staffer did–and there are several answers that didn’t reflect his views then or now. He may have jotted some notes on the front page of the questionnaire, but some answers didn’t reflect his views.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, see, we hear what he says, but his actions speak louder than his words. Why would he suddenly be concerned about legitimate gun buyers purchasing more guns? Isn’t that good for the economy? He should just shut up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
