Bobo sends us a link from the Washington Times<\/a> which reports that Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley is pretty upset that the list of “mental defectives” on the National Instant Criminal Background Check System who are forbidden to possess firearms is 99.3% veterans, mostly because the only agency that is doing what the law requires all government agencies to do;<\/p>\n

All federal agencies are required to report names of individuals who are dangers to themselves or others to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System\u2019s \u201cmental defective\u201d category \u2014 a status that prevents them from owning or possessing guns.<\/p>\n

That means that veterans \u201care particularly singled out,\u201d Mr. Grassley said. Those veterans should not be required by the Department of Veterans Affairs \u201cto prove that they have the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to the Congressional Research Service, as of June 1, 2012, 99.3% of all names reported to the NICS list\u2019s \u2018mental defective\u2019 category were provided by the Veterans Administration (VA) even though reporting requirements apply to all federal agencies,\u201d Mr. Grassley\u2019s letter said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But, you know this is just part of the White House’s anti-military, anti-veteran series of programs. the Department of Defense is burdened with the entirety of federal budget cuts, and now the Department of Veterans’ Affairs is providing the sole list to forbid the ownership of guns among the people who shouldn’t own guns, you know, with little legal remedy.<\/p>\n

Grassely contends that the list is largely made up of veterans who require a financial advisor to help them balance their budgetary affairs. So that makes perfect sense.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
