Craven County Sheriff’s Captain, Joe Heckman, told us a 31-year-old male came up to the house on Pinecliff Road in Harlowe. He said, that man tried to engage in a conversation with the 71-year-old male homeowner. According to Heckman, the homeowner went back inside, and when the homeowner came back outside the younger male was still there. Heckman said a fight then happened.<\/p>\n
“The victim pulled out a gun, the 71-year-old pulled out a gun and shot the 31-year-old attacker,” said Heckman.<\/p>\n
He said the 31-year-old went to Carteret General Hospital before being taken to Vidant Medical Center.<\/p>\n
Neighbors say this is not the first time a robbery has been attempted at this house. <\/p>\n
“I know he’s been broken into one or two times before,” said Martin Donohue. “I’ve been to his house. From what he has actually done, he has fortified like his doors [and] windows because he’s been broken into before.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
