{"id":58790,"date":"2015-03-18T11:27:51","date_gmt":"2015-03-18T15:27:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=58790"},"modified":"2015-03-18T11:39:43","modified_gmt":"2015-03-18T15:39:43","slug":"dod-500m-in-weapons-and-equipment-disappears-in-yemen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=58790","title":{"rendered":"DoD: $500m in weapons and equipment disappears in Yemen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/pentagon-loses-sight-of-500-million-in-counterterrorism-aid-given-to-yemen\/2015\/03\/17\/f4ca25ce-cbf9-11e4-8a46-b1dc9be5a8ff_story.html\">Washington Post<\/a> reports that the Pentagon has lost track of about five hundred million bucks worth of weapons and equipment that they supplied to the Yemeni government in their fight against al Qaeda and Iran-backed rebels.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>With Yemen in turmoil and its government splintering, the Defense Department has lost its ability to monitor the whereabouts of small arms, ammunition, night-vision goggles, patrol boats, vehicles and other supplies donated by the United States. The situation has grown worse since the United States closed its embassy in Sanaa, the capital, last month and withdrew many of its military advisers.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to assume it\u2019s completely compromised and gone,\u201d said a legislative aide on Capitol Hill who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Post provides this helpful inventory;<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?attachment_id=58791\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-58791\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Lost-equipment-300x259.jpg\" alt=\"Lost equipment\" width=\"300\" height=\"259\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-58791\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Lost-equipment-300x259.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Lost-equipment-386x333.jpg 386w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Lost-equipment.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon is on top of it, though. They claim that they&#8217;ve halted shipments and aid to the nonexistent Yemeni government.  The article says that the lost hardware won&#8217;t shift the balance of power in the country since everyone there has guns and there is a pretty extensive weapons bazaar system. If it won&#8217;t help, then why were we providing it in the first place? That&#8217;s a stupid conclusion.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe administration really wanted to stick with this narrative that Yemen was different from Iraq, that we were going to do it with fewer people, that we were going to do it on the cheap,\u201d said Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Tex.), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. \u201cThey were trying to do with a minimalist approach because it needed to fit with this narrative .?.?. that we\u2019re not going to have a repeat of Iraq.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah, well, Iraq is a repeat of Iraq at this point.
